Families Anonymous (FA) was founded in 1971 as a mutual support group for families of people involved in drug abuse and related behavioral problems. Group meetings and discussions are modeled on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and focus on providing emotional support for the member rather than changing the behavior of the substance abuser. There are no fees or dues for group membership. Assistance is offered to people forming new FA groups.
Publications
FA publishes pamphlets, booklets, and a daily inspirational book, "Today a Better Way," on the helping philosophy of FA and the formation of new FA groups. Serial publication: Twelve Step Rag (newsletter), quarterly news; and Annual Report (May).
