Abstract

The National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) was established in 1972 as a centralized information service for criminal justice practitioners and researchers. NCJRS provides reference services; distributes publications of the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs; collects publications for its collection; and provides other services, such as document loan, and information dissemination via the World Wide Web site, www.ncjrs.org. A computerized database includes abstracts of all materials in the NCJRS collection. (The database is available on CD-ROM and on DIALOG.) A reading room is available (Second Floor, 2277 Research Boulevard, Rockville, MD). To schedule an appointment call 301-519-5063. Health relevant areas covered by NCJRS include violence prevention; mental illness and crime; victimization; human development and criminal behavior; family violence and child abuse; health care fraud; substance abuse and treatment; and correctional health care, including AIDS and tuberculosis.

Publications

NCJRS distributes publications for the Department of Justice's National Institute of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office for Victims of Crime, Bureau of Justice Statistics, and Bureau of Justice Assistance, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The bi-monthly NCJRS Catalog lists new publications.
