The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) is a nonprofit association incorporated in 1974. Its purposes are to foster research of pain mechanisms and syndromes, help improve management of acute and chronic pain, promote education and training in the field of pain, facilitate the dissemination of new information through publications and a triennial world congress, encourage the development of national pain societies in countries throughout the world, encourage the development of a data bank, and inform the public about research in the field. It is funded through fees and contributions.
Publications
IASP distributes several reprints and curricula on pain for schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and occupational/physical therapy, and psychology (also availableon Web site). IASP Press publishes medical books in the pain field. Serial publications: PAIN (journal), monthly--original research, topical reviews, and clinical notes; Newsletter, quarterly--ongoing activities and meeting notices; Directory, annual, Clinical newsletter, quarterly--clinical pain topics (also available on Web site).
