The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), founded in 1974 as the American Intra-Ocular Society, disseminates information and encourages communication among ophthalmologists about intra-ocular lens implantation and refractive surgery. ASCRS programs and services include publications, a bi-monthly journal, annual symposia, continuing medical education credits, intra-ocular lens quality control efforts, advocacy of lens implant patients' interests, study of lens safety, research fellowships, an emergency 24-hour consultation hotline, and emergency warnings on dangers involved with lenses.

ASCRS publishes a membership roster and a journal. Serial publication: Journal, monthly--letters, abstracts, and articles on intra-ocular lens implant and refractive surgery techniques, cases, and instruments.
