The National Alliance of Blind Students (NABS) was founded in 1974 as an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind to provide a forum for blind and visually impaired students. It believes that establishing a nationwide network of disabled students is the only way to promote progress toward full accessibility to colleges and universities for persons with disabilities. Members are active in local organizations of disabled students, and the organization takes part in meetings of professionals who work with disabled students.
