Founded in 1942, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is a national professional association representing pharmacists who practice in hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, home care agencies, and other components of health care systems. The Society has extensive publishing and educational programs designed to help members improve their delivery of pharmaceutical care, and it is a national accrediting organization for pharmacy residency and pharmacy technician training programs.
Publications
ASHP publishes several handbooks, reference books, official statements, and official guidelines on all aspects of drug therapy and pharmacy practice. Some consumer-oriented pamphlets are also available. Serial publications: ASHP InterSections Member Magazine, quarterly; American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, monthly--articles on hospital pharmacy and clinical practice; AHFS Drug Information, annual -- comprehensive drug information reference book.
