Report Title:	National Eye Health Education Program: Hispanic Eye Health Campaign. Focus Group Report: Washington, DC, and Milwaukee
*Abstract:*	During the month of May 2002, seven focus groups were conducted for the Hispanic Eye Health Campaign sponsored by the National Eye Institute. Two focus groups were held in Washington, DC, and five were held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These focus groups comprised a total of 71 participants, ranging in age from 21 to 65 or older and included several subpopulations, including Central American, South American, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and other Spanish-speaking nationalities. Each of the groups was presented with four messages and visual images. Group participants were assessed for overall eye health awareness, gauged for the impact of the messages and images, and queried about their sources of health information. Several trends and overarching themes consistently emerged across these groups: the understanding that eye health is important and poor vision can drastically impede lives, the importance of getting eye exams, and confirmation that television is the most popular venue for receiving health-related information. The majority of participants knew about eye exams, but very few knew how often they should have their eyes examined, regardless of the participants’ age. Overall, participants indicated that simple, straightforward messages are the most productive and informative. Participants expressed a strong interest in eye health and eye exam information, regardless of whether they had already developed any type of eye disease. The majority of participants were motivated to get their eyes examined after viewing the presented messages and concepts.

Report Title:	Warning Labels Focus Groups: Response to Canadian Warning Labels; Report of Findings from Smokers and Non-Smokers Focus Groups
*Abstract:*	The purpose of the present study was to examine the knowledge, attitudes, and predicted behavior of young adults in the U.S. to the Canadian warning labels. During January and February of 2002, 12 focus groups were conducted in Detroit with youth adults between 18 and 24 years of age. Separate focus groups were held for current smokers, some college educated and non-college educated persons, and men and women. Detroit was selected because of proximity with the Canadian border and possible familiarity of participants with the Canadian warning labels.

Report Title:	Influenza and Pneumococcal Immunization: A Qualitative Assessment of the Beliefs of Physicians and Older Hispanic Americans and African Americans
*Abstract:*	The National Immunization Program NIP at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC commissioned a series of consumer focus groups and physician interviews to collect qualitative data about beliefs, behaviors, and barriers that cause low influenza and pneumococcal immunization rates among older African-American and Hispanic populations. Historically, immunization rates for these relatively high-risk groups have been low. Eighteen focus groups and interviews were conducted in Chicago, IL Jackson, MS Milwaukee, WI Rochester, NY and San Antonio, TX. Eight of the groups were made of Hispanic Americans and ten were made up of African Americans. All participants were 65 years of age and older.
